Due to the pandemic, food for the most needy families in Rancho los Pinos in Quito has been distributed weekly since April. Thus, 200 families received basic food such as rice, pasta, tuna, beans, etc. on a regular basis for four months. The 12 kilogram food baskets were made with ten different products, some of which were laboriously filled into 500 gram bags. In other words, 19’000 kg of food were distributed to these families.

During this time we got back many smiles and words of thanks and one could feel a relief of the people during the handover. How calmly can parents sleep again when they know that thanks to this food their children can go to bed without hunger.

Limited mobility has been possible again for about a month now and the world of work has partially reopened in certain sectors. For this reason, the Foundation is currently limiting its contributions to very specific cases of families where hunger is still the daily focus. However, the situation is constantly being re-analysed and a resumption of the levy cannot be ruled out.

At the moment, however, the focus is again on the children, who have been coming to the Fundacion for a short time to have their daily nutritious lunch. It is wonderful to watch how the children enjoy and appreciate every meal with pleasure and appreciation. Not only is the belly simply filled, but the balanced diet also allows the children and young people to grow healthily again.

Despite signs that things are not improving, we hope that things will soon return to normal so that the children can have a happy and fulfilled childhood, go to school and spend the afternoons with their friends at the Fundación.
